  • Da quanto tempo che non ci vediamo ! = It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other
  • È una vita ! = it’s been a lifetime !
  • È una vita che non parlo con lui = I haven’t talked to him in ages
  • Sono secoli che… = it’s been ages since… (literally: it’s been centuries)
  • Sono secoli che non mangio in un ristorante = it’s been ages since I ate in a restaurant; I haven’t eaten in a restaurant in ages
  • Sono anni… = It’s been years…
  • Sono mesi… = It’s been months…
  • Sono settimane… = It’s been weeks…
  • Sono giorni… = It’s been days…
  • Sono anni che non lavoro più lì = It’s been years since I worked there; I haven’t worked there in years

  • Se devo essere sincero = to be honest
  • Se devo essere sincero, preferisco andare al teatro che al cinema = To be honest, I prefer going to theatre than going to the cinema

VERBI FRASEOLOGICI: INIZIO DI UN’AZIONE
Phraseological verbs: beginning of an action

Phraseological verbs describe the beginning, the continuation or the ending of an action. In the dialogue we found a phraseological verb and we’re going to find more in the next lessons. They are always used with a preposition (a, per, di…) and the infinitive of another verb.

  • cominciare a = to begin to, to start doing something
  • La prossima settimana comincio a tradurre un libro = Next week I’ll start translating a book
  • Ho cominciato a lavorare un mese fa = I began to work a month ago
  • Cominciavo a preoccuparmi = I was starting to worry
  • Comincerò a studiare domani = I’ll begin to study tomorrow
