Can you explain why “dunque” is used in the sentence, “________, nel mio sogno ero un astronauta e partivo per Marte”, and not “così”? I’m having trouble understanding the difference between the two.
Hi Lisa.
When we start telling something, in Italian we always use either “Dunque,…” or “Allora,…”. For example: “Ti racconto cosa ho sognato. Dunque, ero in una casa…” / “Ti racconto cosa ho sognato. Allora, ero in una casa…”
We use “così” only to express a consequence. For example, “Pioveva, così sono rimasto a casa” – which is the same as “quindi” or “di conseguenza”: “Pioveva, quindi sono rimasto a casa” / “Pioveva, di conseguenza sono rimasto a casa”.
